"A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder." - Thomas Carlyle.
Many other individuals in the world have goals in mind that they dream of accomplishing one day not only in their fantasies but in reality. The day we all accomplish the goals that either others or we have set for us would not only be a miracle but a mundane day. In my interpretation of the quote above is how, we are a speck apart of society no let us think bigger, the galaxy, if we weren't to live with goals in our mundane lives or non-mundane, were would we actually be. Okay, that's a discussion that I would need to have for another day, but for now, let's keep it basic and on topic with the given examples. One of the many examples that were shown to us in class today was the man who wanted to be the best basketball player in his town or even in the state if he could. His goal was that but not only to be the best or starter but he had small goals as well. they were practicing every moment that he could get in to practice his drills to improve and speed. His name was Nick Straskus, a man from Michigan college. Nick accomplished his goals and lived a very easy life for awhile till he realized that these goals got him here and decided to make new goals. Just like everyone else, in the words of Thomas Carlyle.

“If I've got correct goals, and if I keep pursuing them the best way I know how, everything else falls into line. If I do the right thing right, I'm going to succeed.” ―Dan Dierdorf
In my personal opinion I agree with Dan Dierdorf on his idea of having the correct goals and if you pursue them then you're going to lead to success. For instance, if I were wanting to build a good and stable relationship with anyone I would have to have the correct mindset to have short-term goals that lead to long ones. you first have to find the short-term goals before you lead to pursuing them to become your success. In other words, if they want to hang out and you say yes and your goal it to follow through with it and you do. Your success is that they will want to hang out with you more, and your not a person who flakes and lies. But, yes the idea of the quote is somewhat true but needs to be modified to the person's life and situation. At the end of the day your actions speak louder than words. So why not understand the situation before acting on it. And learn to appreciate the little time you have left to set goals and pursue them.

Student success statement
"In life as in football, you won't go far, unless you know where the goalposts are"- Arnold H. Glasgow
In my personal opinion Arnold is right because he is using symbol figurative language. Where the goalposts in a game are a symbol of the end mark of that time period of success that you were working hard to achieve. For instance, in an actual game of soccer or any given sport you work hard, you sweat, and make plays so you can score, to show all your blood and sweat has payed off. And if you score then chances are that you are going to want to score another goal because you like the feeling of it so you do it all again. But the other team knows a bit more of how you play so they make it more challenging for you to score another goal on them. And that's when you change the plays around and learn new strategies and new ways to score the goal. Another example is the opposite where you don't have a given goal short or long term and you just go with the flow and go through the task or life with not mindset of a goal. Which can lead to failure or success, mainly failure. But as Arnold H. Glasgow states in his quote that you can go far if you don't know where the goalposts are. And he is right so choose the right and stay on the path to success.
